MATCHA LATTE

I’m currently living in northern Vermont for the winter, and sadly, my favorite coffee shop closed in town. I had a real matcha latte habit, often picking it up on my many trips up and down Mountain Road. Now that it’s no longer an option, I’ve started to make my daily matcha lattes at home. It’s quite simple and wish I started this home practice sooner! It would have saved me a bunch of money to say the least.

A daily dose of matcha is highly recommended. It not only tastes amazing, it has unparalleled antioxidant properties that help the body fight oxidative stress and corresponding common diseases like cancer, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune disorders. It also contains a high level of chlorophyll, a compound that helps the body eliminate toxins and build blood. If that doesn’t convince you, chlorophyll is also considered to have anti-aging properties. Unlike how coffee can sometimes make you feel jittery, matcha results in more of a calm alertness. Given the current environment, don’t we all need a little calm and alertness in our lives these days?

Matcha Latte

Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp matcha
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 1/4 cups oat milk

Instructions

  1. Heat water to 175 degrees F. You want it be under boiling. Otherwise, your green tea will taste bitter.

  2. In a small pot, heat up oat milk gently over medium heat. Using a milk frother, froth your milk.

  3. In a small bowl, put matcha. Add warm water. Using a matcha whisk (or a regular small whisk), whisk until combined well with no lumps.

  4. Pour the frothed milk on top and enjoy!
